We are extremely excited to announce that we have hired Martin Ward to take over as head groundskeeper effective immediately. Martin brings a wealth of experience and, having helped us over the past year already, has developed an affinity for our golf course and all the things that make it special.
Martin has degrees his Certificate in Ornamental Horticulture from Finger Lakes Community College and has also completed the Turfgrass A.A.S. Program at State University of New York at Cobleskill.. He is a NYSDEC Certified Pesticide Applicator and a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America since 2008 and the Finger Lakes Association of Golf Course Superintendents since 2009.
Martin was the assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Irondequoit Country Club from 2009-2014. Before that he was second assistant at Shaker Ridge Country Club in Albany. Most recently he was employed by Cornell Cooperative Extension which is how he came to work with us at SFCC.
We are super-excited about what Martin brings to the table and feel our golf course will be in great hands. We also appreciate Doug McWhorter’s dedication to SFCC over the past several years and are pleased to let you know that Doug will remain at SFCC on Martin’s staff. We have a great team in place and expect great course conditions in 2017.
